Late last year, PUBG Corporation launched a new Mastery initiative aimed at improving and developing the way progression works on the Battlegrounds. Since then, we’ve been working head and shoulders on building a cohesive progression system that feels true to the PUBG experience and pays off for you, the players. After months of planning and development, we are excited to finally unveil our first class of advancement: Weapon Mastery.
What is gun control?
Weapon Mastery is a brand new progression feature in PUBG with unique, free rewards. Our goals for Weapon Mastery are simple, give players a way to improve their weapon skills and celebrate the journey along the way.
After Weapon Mastery goes live, you’ll notice that each weapon now has a series of levels that players can progress through by dealing damage and defeating opponents. However, it’s important to note that both strategy and precision also affect how quickly you upgrade your weapons. Weapon Mastery aims to encourage healthy play in PUBG, rewarding both weapon skill and the effort to be the last man in tandem.
TL;DR: Shoot enemies, stay alive, get cool stuff.
Advances in Gun Control
You can progress through Weapon Mastery levels by earning Weapon XP in matches. By making difficult shots, surviving longer, and defeating more enemies, you all earn Weapon XP faster. After every ten levels on a weapon, you are promoted to the next Mastery Tier (there are 10 levels in total). Completing levels and levels in Weapon Mastery will result in unlocking the rewards the system has to offer. The further you get, the more there is to unlock. To help you track your progress, we’ve added a new Last Match screen where you can see your earned weapon XP, weapon stats and earned rewards from the previous game you played.
We’ve bundled the Last Match screen and everything else related to weapon progress into this new menu. The Mastery menu will serve as the new home base for all Mastery team progress content. In this version you can view weapon stats, see your medals earned and track the progress of your rewards for each weapon.
Speaking of rewards, Weapon Mastery offers some new things to unlock and collect, all of which are free to those who earn them. Weapon Mastery content will never be available for purchase, so be prepared to work for this specialized loot. Giving players the opportunity to show off their achievements and personalize their appearance is very high on our priority list. We’ve explained how to earn rewards, but here’s a sneak peek at the perks and levels coming to Weapon Mastery.
Charms are a brand new aesthetic reward for PUBG. Charms are key chain-like trinkets that attach to the left side of the barrel of each weapon. You can equip and see which charms you have unlocked from the Mastery tab. We’re launching with 20 unique charms to be earned per weapon and it’s a safe bet there are more to come.
Each layer has its own corresponding decal and those decals become more prestigious over time. Over the coming months, our team will be exploring ways to show off your decals to other players.
The launch of Weapon Mastery also includes the maiden voyage of our new medal system. Medals are our way of highlighting the great achievements you put in. Our Launch Medals are all about rare feats of arms. We’ll be sharing more about how medals fit into our bigger plans in the future, but in the meantime, enjoy stacking those Quadras.
What are defeats?
Defeats is a new concept that we are bringing to the game to clarify how medals are earned.
You beat a player by
- Kill every player in the solo playlists
- Take down any enemy in duo or squad playlists
- Killing the last man on a team in duo or squad playlists
You can’t beat a player
- Kill an already eliminated player in duo or squad playlists
…and no, you can’t beat your own teammates. Don’t be that guy.
Weapon Mastery is the first part of a much larger system under development. As we learn, adapt and grow as a group, we want to hear from you. If you have any ideas to improve the Weapon Mastery system, ideas for future rewards, or any thoughts on the best way to grow and progress as a PUBG player, please let us know.
Some of the Weapon Mastery team will be doing an AMA on Reddit on April 22, 2019 from 10am to 1pm ET, which we will link through our social channels. Now is a good time to ask the developers and designers about this upcoming feature! We also collect questions separately from those unable to participate in the AMA due to the time difference, so leave your questions here as comments! We’re going to collect them and send them to AMA for developers to reply to. These answers will be posted in the Q&A announcement after the event, so keep an eye out for upcoming announcements for a chance to get answers!
You can try out the Weapon Mastery system on the PC test server on 4/17/2019 KST, and when it goes live for PC a week later. Weapons Mastery is in development for Xbox and PS4.
See you on the battlefields,
